Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary)
The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is a four year degree that gives students a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in the areas of humanities and social sciences, mathematics, and science.
The Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary) is a five year degree that gives students a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in the areas of humanities and social sciences, mathematics, and science. The Bachelor of Advanced Studies fifth year enables students to undertake advanced coursework in Education or another subject area, or Honours. Honours entry is via meritorious application.
Students gain a strong practical and theoretical preparation for teaching. The course covers professional teaching, Aboriginal education, special and inclusive education, international education, and information and communications technology.
School observations and work-based training, worth a total of at least 560 hours, are integral components of the professional experiences in the degree. Professional teaching experiences and internships are offered in partnership with participating schools and offer an opportunity to develop teaching skills and professional understanding of how schools work.
Students choose a first teaching area via a major from one of the following areas:
- Aboriginal studies
- Commerce
- Economics
- Geography
- English
- Drama
- History (modern or ancient)
- Languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew (modern or classical), Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Modern Greek, or Spanish
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
A second teaching area can be taken via a minor (36 credit points) or teaching area (24 credit points).

Degree structure and requirements
1. Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree, students must complete 192 credit points in total, comprising:
- a total of 60 credit points of core units;
- a 48 credit point major in Education Studies;
- a second major (48 credit points) or minor (36 credit points) from Table A;
- a minor (36 credit points) or teaching area (24 credit points) from Table A;
- an optional maximum of 12 credit points of Table O units;
- where required, elective units from Table S.

2. Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary)
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary) degree, students must complete 240 credit points in total, comprising:
- a total of 60 credit points of core units;
- a 48 credit point major in Education Studies;
- a second major (48 credit points) from Table A;
- a minor (36 credit points) or teaching area (24 credit points) from Table A;
- a maximum of 12 credit points of Table O units;
- a minimum of 24 credit points of advanced coursework at 4000 level from Table A or Table S including a research, community industry or entrepreneurship project of at least 12 and a maximum of 36 credit points;
- where required, elective units from Table S.

Dalyell stream
The Dalyell stream is a targeted stream for high achievers. Students who participate in the Dalyell stream are known as the ‘Dalyell Scholars’. As a Dalyell Scholar, students will have access to curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Dalyell Scholars must take 12 credit points of Dalyell stream units in addition to their degree requirements.
Dalyell stream units emphasise the development of vision, depth of understanding, adaptability, breadth of perspective, societal contribution and a high level of capability in operating across disciplinary and cultural boundaries. Dalyell Scholars may take Dalyell stream units offered by any faculty.
Additionally with the permission of the Dalyell Program Director, students will have access to enrichment and accelerated units of study that can be competed as electives.

Table O - Open Learning Environment (OLE)
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary) are required to complete at least 12 credit points in units of study from the Open Learning Environment (OLE) to meet the requirements for their degree/s.

Electives
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary), and Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Secondary) can complete elective units of study from the subject areas listed in Table A (Arts and Social Sciences) and Table S (shared pool).
