These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Honesty in Coursework Policy 2015 and the Academic Honesty Procedures 2016. 2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to candidate choice.

3 Embedded courses

(1)
The embedded courses in this sequence are:
(a)
Diploma of Foundation Studies
(b)
Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies; and
(c)
Bachelor of Arts (Extended).
(2)
All candidates will be admitted to and enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Extended).
(3)
A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) may, with the permission of the Associate Dean (Education), elect to discontinue study and graduate with a lower award from the embedded sequence, provided that:
(a)
for the Diploma of Foundation Studies, the candidate has successfully completed 36 credit points as specified in the course resolutions for the Diploma of Foundation Studies;
(b)
for the Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies, the candidate has successfully completed 72 credit points as specified in thecourse resolutions for the Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies.

4 Streams

(1)
Streams are not available in the Bachelor of Arts (Extended).

5 Cross-faculty management

(1)
Candidates in the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) will be under the supervision of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
(2)
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences shall exercise authority in any matter concerned with the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) not otherwise dealt with in these resolutions.

6 Admission to candidature

(1)
Admission to this course is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, who meet the process outlined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
(2)
Admission to this course will be on demonstrated potential for tertiary study to a standard sufficient to undertake the course as demonstrated in:
(a)
a numeracy and literacy diagnostic test;
(b)
a structured interview;
(c)
evidence of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents) or Record of Student Achievement (RoSA), tertiary study or an approved preparation program;
(d)
a portfolio of written work or support material including a personal statement of intent for studying the course.
(3)
English language requirements must be met where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English.
(4)
Applicants are ranked on merit and offers for available places are issued according to the ranking. Details of admission policies are found in the Coursework Rule 2014 and the Coursework Policy 2014.

7 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) are set out in:
(a)
Table E for the Bachelor of Arts (Extended)
(b)
Table A for the Bachelor of Arts
(c)
Table S of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees;
(d)
Table O of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees;
(2)
Bachelor of Arts (Extended)
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) degree, candidates must complete 168 credit points in total, comprising:
(a)
36 credit points from Table E including:
(i)
24 credit points of foundation units of study
(ii)
6 credit points of foundation core units from Table E
(iii)
6 credit points of cultural project unit.
(b)
6 credit points of degree core units from Table A for the Bachelor of Arts;
(c)
A major (48 credit points) as listed and defined in Section 8 below and as specified in Table A;
(d)
A minor (36 credit points) or second major (48 credit points) as listed and defined in Section 8 below and as specified in Table A or Table S;
(e)
A minimum of 12 credit points of units of study in the Open Learning Environment as specified in Table O;
(f)
Where appropriate, elective units from Table A, Table S or Table O.

8 Majors and minors

(1)
Bachelor of Arts (Extended)
(a)
Completion of a major from Table A and a minor or second major from Table A or Table S is a requirement of the Bachelor of Arts (Extended).
(b)
Requirements for completion of majors and minors are as set out in Table A and Table S.
(2)
Requirements for majors and minors
(a)
Majors and minors are as defined in the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019.
(b)
The requirements for completion of majors and minors are as set out in Table A and Table S.
(3)
The list of Bachelor of Arts Table A majors available is specified in the resolutions for the Bachelor of Arts.
(4)
The list of Bachelor of Arts Table A minors available is specified in the resolutions for the Bachelor of Arts.
(5)
Second majors
(a)
All majors available as Table A majors in the Bachelor of Arts are available as second majors in the Bachelor of Arts (Extended). Second majors available in the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) also include those listed in Table S.

9 Progression rules

(1)
Progression within a major or minor
(a)
Except with the permission of the relevant major or minor coordinator, candidates must pass two 1000- level units of study within a major (except a language major) or minor, before proceeding to 2000-level units within that major or minor, or else undertake those 1000-level units concurrently with the 2000-level units.
(b)
Except with the permission of the relevant major or minor coordinator, candidates must pass the required number of 2000-level units of study within a major (except a language major) or minor, before proceeding to 3000-level units or else undertake those 2000-level units concurrently with the 3000-level units.
(c)
Candidates in a language major commence a major at a level commensurate with their previous ability as determined by the Faculty and must complete lower level units before completing the next higher level or else undertake those lower level units concurrently with the next higher level.

10 Cross-institutional study

Cross-institutional study is available in this course under conditions specified in the Resolutions of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

11 International exchange

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences encourages candidates in this course to participate in international exchange programs as set out in the Resolutions of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

12 Course transfer

A student may transfer from this course to the Bachelor of Arts. Transferring students may only receive credit for any units taken from Table A of the Bachelor of Arts, Table O (Open Learning Environment) and for the relevant units of study in accordance with the course resolutions for the Bachelor of Arts.

13 Credit for previous study

Credit transfer is subject to the provisions of the Coursework Policy and the Resolutions of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or, in the case of a major or minor offered by another faculty, any relevant resolutions of that faculty.

14 Transitional provisions

These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2022.
