The first English unit in the BEd primary program provides an overview of language and literacy development with a focus on young children. By building foundational knowledge about the socio-cultural nature of literacy, the areas of talking and listening, reading and writing and other communication modes will be explored in relation to curriculum and effective classroom practices. The unit will enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of quality children's literature and other engaging texts using them as the basis for developing the teaching of reading. Content includes reading and writing theory and pedagogy, principles for assessment, literacy planning and classroom teaching practices.

Students will explore Science and Technology teaching, learning and curriculum commencing with kindergarten. Students will reflect on and extend their science knowledge about living things; properties of material objects; movement, forces and energy; daily and seasonal changes on Earth, care of the environment and Earth's resources. Application of the technology design process and digital technologies will help students learn how to support children's developing understanding of systems, instructions, algorithms and data representation. In practical workshops age-appropriate teaching and learning strategies and inclusive pedagogies are modelled, experienced and evaluated by students.

In this first PDHPE unit students will reflect upon their physical activity and health status, values and attitudes, and explore the importance of leading active and healthy lives and imparting these to their future students. The unit will examine the current requirements regarding K-6 PDHPE and students will design and evaluate a variety of pedagogies and skills for teaching PDHPE. The notion of a Health Promoting School will also be introduced in relation to the need for whole school planning. Specific subject matter will include healthy eating, interpersonal relationships (including anti-bullying education), safety, healthy choices, fundamental movement skills, dance and gymnastics.

This unit of study focuses on ways of knowing and learning in the primary curriculum area of Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), with a emphasis on the disciplines of history and geography. The unit integrates the development of competencies for active and informed citizenship, with an emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, sustainability and creative pedagogies.

This unit focuses on the mathematics content areas of measurement and space and geometry. Interactive sessions will develop students' understanding of how children learn key measurement and geometric concepts and provide opportunities for students to practise foundational and inclusive pedagogies necessary for high quality teaching of mathematics. Working mathematically processes and effective use of digital technologies will be integrated throughout the unit.

Creativity is one of the 4C's deemed crucial for 21st century learning. Fostering creativity in the primary classroom and in pedagogy more generally is central to Education and the Arts 1. This unit offers rich experiences in the four Creative Arts strands: Drama, Visual Arts, Music and Dance. It utilises experiential learning approaches and combines both theoretical and practical/studio practice across a range of artforms appropriate to K-6 classrooms.

Provides an introduction to key concepts in education, including pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment. These concepts are discussed within the context of four interrelated themes: (1) New times and practices for teaching and learning; (2) Knowledge, culture and curriculum; (3) Teaching as a process and way of life; (4) Teachers as learners and researchers. As the first unit in the Education Studies major, the unit introduces ways of thinking about education, teachers, young people and communities. It draws from a range of disciplines, including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal histories and philosophies of education, sociology of education, cultural studies, psychology and human development.

This unit critically examines the social, political, and economic contexts of education. Using a sociological lens it explores key issues concerning difference and inequality in education-including 'race', social class, religion, gender, sexuality, cultural diversity, and indigeneity. It provides a critical analysis of the teaching profession and how issues of power, privilege, social justice and globalization impact education and educational policy. At the end of the unit students should have the capacity to discuss the impact of a range of educational practices and policies on students, schools, families, and communities.

Interdisciplinarity is a key skill in fostering agility in life and work. This unit provides learning experiences that build students' skills, knowledge and understanding of the application of their disciplinary background to interdisciplinary contexts. In this unit, students will work in teams and develop interdisciplinarity skills through problem-based learning projects responding to 'real world problems'.

This interdisciplinary unit provides students with the opportunity to address complex problems identified by industry, community, and government organisations, and gain valuable experience in working across disciplinary boundaries. In collaboration with a major industry partner and an academic lead, students integrate their academic skills and knowledge by working in teams with students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds. This experience allows students to research, analyse and present solutions to a realworld problem, and to build on their interpersonal and transferable skills by engaging with and learning from industry experts and presenting their ideas and solutions to the industry partner.
