Nanoscale Biotechnology

The Nanoscale Biotechnology specialisation is designed to prepare you to work in emerging and cutting-edge bioengineering technology sectors, including nanotechnology and nanomedicine, mechanobiology, novel biomaterials, and advanced instrumentation for biomedical research.

Students complete 30 credit points to achieve this specialisation.
Students complete 24 credit points from the following:
Advanced Instrumentation for Nanotechnology
6    A Knowledge in calculus, linear differential equations, basic mechanics and electromagnetism.
Semester 1
Nanomaterials in Medicine
6    A [[(BIOL1xxx OR MBLG1xxx) AND CHEM1xxx AND PHYS1xxx] OR [(AMME1961 OR BMET1961)] AND (MECH2901 OR BMET2901)]] AND (NANO2xxx OR AMME1362)

Nanotechnology in Biomedical Engineering

Introduction to Mechanobiology
6    A 6 credit points of 1000-level biology, 6 credit points of 1000-level chemistry and 6 credit points of 2000-level physiology or equivalent

Engineering Macromolecules and Nanocomposites
6    A CHNG2801 and 12 cp of CHEM1XXX
Semester 1
Computational Nanotechnology
6    A Understanding of basic principles of Newtonian mechanics, physics and chemistry, fluid mechanics and solid mechanics.

Note: Department permission required for enrolment

Semester 2
Bioinspired Materials: Design and Fabrication
6    A 1000-level materials science and mechanics.
Semester 2
Microscopy and Microanalysis of Materials
6    A AMME1362 or AMME9302 or CIVL2110.
Semester 1
Units taken for the specialisation will also count toward requirements of the Biomedical stream.
