Drumset Principal Study

Unit outlines will be available through Find a unit outline two weeks before the first day of teaching for 1000-level and 5000-level units, or one week before the first day of teaching for all other units.
 

Drum Set Principal Study units

Drum set principal study requirements applies to students in the following degrees. Specific requirements are listed in the relevant Non-orchestral enrolment pattern.
(a) BMusic (Performance):
(i) 72 credit points in Drum set 1-2; 3-8 (extended).
(b) BMusic/BAdvanced Studies (Performance):
(i) 72 credit points in Drum set 1-2; 3-8 (extended).
(c) BMusic (Music Education):
(i) 24 credit points in Drum set 1-4.
(d) Diploma of Music:
(i) 24 credit points in Drum set 1-4.
Drum set 5-8 (Extended) will be introduced from 2022.
DRUM1601 Drum Set 1

Credit points: 6 Teacher/Coordinator: Dr Simon Barker Session: Semester 1,Semester 2 Classes: weekly lessons Assumed knowledge: Students enrolling must have fundamentals of drum set performance and some performance experience in place. Assessment: 1 x Final exam- Teacher Grade (60%), 1 x Final exam Process Assessment (30%), 1 x continuous assessment/engagement with materials (10%) Mode of delivery: Normal (lecture/lab/tutorial) day
The subject will offer students a firm technical and theoretical grounding, a range of problem-solving skills, and a variety of developmental processes, thus equipping students with a broad skill set to face challenges associated within an ever changing and evolving music industry landscape. In addition, students will be provided with a broad historical perspective, as well as a large pool of creative co-ordination processes associated with a range of stylistic areas to equip individuals with a thorough grounding in time-keeping, motion-based problem solving, stylistic knowledge and ability, and procedural problem-solving and critical thinking.
DRUM1602 Drum Set 2

Credit points: 6 Teacher/Coordinator: Dr Simon Barker Session: Semester 1,Semester 2 Classes: 1 x 1 hour individual lesson per week Prerequisites: DRUM1602 Assessment: 1 x skills-based assessment (60%); 1 x skills-based evaluation (30%); 1 x class mark based on participation, communication and leadership (10%) Mode of delivery: Normal (lecture/lab/tutorial) day
Drum Set 3 (extended) represents the third semester of the principle study component of Bachelor of Music Performance Drum Set. Each semester of study consists of 13 individual lessons with a specialist teacher. The unit will offer students a firm technical and theoretical grounding, a range of problem solving skills, and a variety of developmental processes, thus equipping students with a broad skill set to face challenges associated within an ever changing and evolving music industry landscape. In addition, students will be provided with a broad historical perspective, as well as a large pool of creative co-ordination processes associated with a range of stylistic areas so as to equip individuals with a thorough grounding in time-keeping, motion-based problem solving, stylistic knowledge and ability, and procedural problem-solving and critical thinking.
DRUM2604 Drum Set 4 (Extended)

Drum Set 4 (extended) represents the fourth semester of the principle study component of the Bachelor of Music Performance Drum Set. Each semester of study consists of 13 individual lessons with a specialist teacher.
