Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations
These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Honesty in Coursework Policy 2015 and the Academic Honesty Procedures 2016. Providing candidates satisfy the admission requirements for each stage, a candidate may progress to the award of candidature in any of the courses in this sequence. Only the longest award completed will be conferred.
(3)
A candidate for the Graduate Diploma in or Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a shorter award from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the Business School, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.
5 Admission to candidature
(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit according to the following admissions criteria:
(i)
a pass bachelor's degree or higher qualification (or equivalent) at an institution approved by the Business School and graded at a standard acceptable to the Business School; or
(ii)
appropriate qualifications and equivalent professional work experience of no less than three years in a relevant field, as defined by the Business School; and
(i)
completion of the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from the University of Sydney with a minimum credit average, or equivalent qualification; or
(ii)
a pass bachelor's degree or higher qualification (or equivalent) at an institution approved by the Business School and graded at a standard acceptable to the Business School; and
(i)
completion of the requirements of either the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from the University of Sydney with a credit average, or equivalent qualification; or
(ii)
a bachelor's degree with honours or higher qualification in any discipline with a minimum credit average (or equivalent) at an institution approved by the Business School; or
(iii)
a pass bachelor's degree in a cognate discipline, as defined by the Business School, with a minimum credit average (or equivalent) at an institution approved by the Business School; or
(iv)
a pass bachelor's degree in a non-cognate discipline with a minimum credit average (or equivalent) at an institution approved by the Business School and a minimum of two years' relevant work experience; or
(iv)
completion of the qualifications and experience specified in (ii), (iii) or (iv) with a minimum pass average (or equivalent) and performance in an admissions test approved by the Business School to a standard considered satisfactory by the Business School; and
(2)
In exceptional circumstances the Business School may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the Business School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.
6 Requirements for award
(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the courses are set out in Table A for the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations a candidate must complete 24 credit points, comprising:

any additional advanced core or elective units of study required to make 24 credit points in total.

To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations a candidate must complete 36 credit points, comprising:

To qualify for the award of the Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations a candidate must complete 60 credit points, comprising:
7 Progression rules

Unless otherwise permitted, candidates must complete the units of study for the courses in a prescribed sequence as specified by the Business School.
8 Recognition of prior learning
(1)
Subject to the specific provisions of this clause, prior learning may be recognised consistently with the requirements of the Coursework Policy.
(2)
For all candidates for any award in this embedded sequence, recognition of prior learning may account for a maximum of 50 percent of the course requirements for the relevant award.
(3)
Candidates for the Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations may be granted a reduced volume of learning, up to a maximum of 12 credit points, if they have:

When granting a reduced volume of learning, the Business School may specify particular units of study against which the reduction is to be applied.
8 Course transfer
(1)
A candidate for the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations may elect to transfer to the Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations upon completion of a minimum of 24 credit points provided that a credit average is achieved.
8 Transitional provisions

These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2022 and students who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January 2022 who elect to proceed under these resolutions. Students who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January 2022 may complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement.
