This unit provides the foundations to advanced clinical training at the postgraduate level in clinical fixed and removable prosthodontics. The focus is on comprehensive understanding and delivery of complete and partial removable prostheses. In fixed prosthodontics, focus is on comprehensive preclinical procedures, case identification, diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment planning and initial phase management. Candidates are required to plan and complete pre-treatment laboratory procedures using conventional and CAD CAM protocols.

This unit provides the foundation to advanced didactic training at the postgraduate level in fixed and removable prosthodontics including implant dentistry. The didactic programme compliments the clinical training and activities with evidence-based information on advanced restorative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics. Active participation in regular journal clubs, seminars and workshops which are held to critically evaluate the current literature and gain the theoretical background required. The first year focus is on aetiology and multidisciplinary diagnosis of dental disease as well as comprehensive treatment planning and sequencing with holistic patient centred management.

Research Methods in Dentistry is a postgraduate course designed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills in clinical research design and EvidenceÂBased Dentistry for students intending to undertake research at the Faculty of Dentistry. All course material is provided through eLearning via the University of Sydney's website. A detailed series of modules and resources are included in the study material. Students are required to complete one tutorial exercise/assignment each week and a final assignment at the end of the course.
Topics covered include introduction to EvidenceÂBased Dentistry, epidemiologic study design, and basic biostatistics. Considerable attention is paid to critical appraisal of journal articles which is an indispensable tool in the pursuit of clinical practice founded on EvidenceÂBased Dentistry. An introduction into conducting literature search, diagnostic test studies and systematic reviews is also provided.

The Research unit of study provides students with exposure to scientific methods by carrying out a research project. Students will learn to develop a research question, set out aims and hypotheses of the intended research project and review the important relevant literature. The student will develop a timeline for the research, complete a Research Data Management Plan (RDMP) and to commence ethics or other institutional biosafety approval if required. Candidates will work on a specified research project under appropriate supervision. At least one of the project supervisors must be an academic staff member of the University. The treatise is a formal piece of writing relevant to the subject area of the degree. The research treatise can be submitted up to one year after completion of the formal clinical studies of the DClinDent program only (within 4 years of commencement of the DClinDent course, subject to any intervening deferment or suspension period).

This unit provides advanced training at the highest postgraduate level in clinical prosthodontics. Students undertake advanced clinical care of patients under supervision. Continued development of skills in diagnosis, treatment planning; prognosis and delivery of advanced multidisciplinary reorganised occlusal and craniofacial rehabilitation. The focus of the 3nd year is on the delivery, follow up and commencement of maintenance of all cases.
