Students will learn to develop a research question, set out aims and hypotheses of the intended research project and review the important relevant literature. The student will develop a timeline for the research, complete a Research Data Management Plan (RDMP) and to commence ethics or other institutional biosafety approval if required. Candidates will work on a specified research project under appropriate supervision. At least one of the project supervisors must be an academic staff member of the University. The treatise is a formal piece of writing relevant to the subject area of the degree. The research treatise can be submitted up to one year after completion of the formal clinical studies of the DClinDent program only (within 4 years of commencement of the DClinDent course, subject to any intervening deferment or suspension period).

The students are required to learn all of the procedures of terminating the treatment, including establishing a proper protocol for retention.
