Direct entry is only available to the Master of Wildlife Health and Population Management. Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Wildlife Health and Population Management and to the Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Population Management is available only via transfer from the Master of Wildlife Health and Population Management and with the approval of the Dean.

6 Admission to candidature

Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria.
(1)
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate in Wildlife Health and Population Management is available only via transfer from the Master of Wildlife Health and Population Management with the approval of the Dean.
(2)
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Population Management is available only via transfer from the Master of Wildlife Health and Population Management with the approval of the Dean
(3)
Admission to candidature for the Master in Wildlife Health and Population Management requires a degree of bachelor from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification, in veterinary, animal or biological sciences.
7 Requirements for award
(1)
The units of study that may be taken for the courses are set out in the table of units for the awards in the Postgraduate Coursework table of units of study.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Wildlife Health and Population Management a candidate must complete 24 credit points of units of study.
(3)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Population Management a candidate must complete 48 credit points of units of study.
(4)
To qualify for the award of the Master in Wildlife Health and Population Management a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:
(a)
a research capstone experience consisting of a research project and producing a research thesis (containing a literature review, and chapters on materials and methods, results and discussion) that meets the requirements specified in the HDR Rule.
(b)
The thesis will be in the style of a scientific article in a pre-selected journal and will meet the style and word requirements for this journal.
8 Progression requirements
(1)
In order to progress to the research capstone experience, students must achieve a weighted average mark of 70 or greater after completion of the following units WILD5001, WILD5002, WILD5003 and WILD 5005.
(2)
Students who have not achieved a weighted average mark of 70 credit points or more after completing WILD5001, WILD5002, WILD5003 and WILD 5005 may transfer to the Graduate Certificate in Wildlife Health and Population Management with the approval of the Dean and graduate with that award.
(3)
Students who have not achieved a weighted average mark of 70 credit points or more after completing WILD5001, WILD5002, WILD5003 and WILD 5005 may transfer to the Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Population Management and graduate with that award:
(b)
when a candidate with a pre-existing AQF level 8 qualification completes a further 12 credit points of units of study as set out in the table of units for the award in the Postgraduate Coursework table of the Faculty Handbook.
9 Recognition of prior learning
(1)
Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Population Management may be eligible for a reduction in the volume of learning of up to 12 credit points for a pre-existing qualification at level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (such as a bachelor degree with honours, or higher award from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification in veterinary, animal or biological sciences; or a Master’s degree in veterinary, animal of biological sciences) or relevant professional experience in the veterinary or animal sciences, as approved by the Faculty.
(2)
Candidates for the Master of Wildlife Health and Population Management may be eligible for a reduction in the volume of learning of up to 24 credit points for a pre-existing qualification at level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (such as a bachelor degree with honours, or equivalent) or relevant professional experience in the veterinary or animal sciences, as approved by the Faculty.
10 Course transfer

A candidate for the degree of Master may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a shorter award from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the Dean, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.
11 Transitional provisions
(1)
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2015 and students who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January, 2015 who elect to proceed under these resolutions.
(2)
Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2015 may complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January, 2020. The Faculty may specify a later date for completion or specify alternative requirements for completion of candidatures that extend beyond this time.
