Marine Science

Honours

Honours in Marine Science is a one-year program embedded as part of the Bachelor of Advanced Studies allowing students to pursue an area of specific interest from within the broad multi-disciplinary world of marine science, with disciplines ranging from Biology to Geology. Topics include areas such as coastal management and ecosystem services, climate change, marine ecology and pollution studies.

Students will complete a 36-credit point research project in collaboration with their supervisor(s) to develop and carry out their project in an immersive research experience. Consequently, students will develop their capacity to design, conduct and critically evaluate scientific studies and build highly sought-after skills in areas including quantitative science (coding, statistical analysis), geographic information systems, fieldwork and laboratory studies. Students will also complete two 6-credit point coursework units that will aid in the development of fundamental research and communication skills.

Admittance into the program is determined by the Faculty of Science as well as the marine science honours coordinator and available to students with a major in relevant to their research project for example, Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geography, Environmental Science etc.

Honours Coordinator:

Professor Dale Dominey-Howes

Unit outlines will be available though Find a unit outline two weeks before the first day of teaching for 1000-level and 5000-level units, or one week before the first day of teaching for all other units.
