Global Health

Admission requirements

Admission to the Master of Global Health requires:

  • A bachelor's degree with honours or a graduate diploma or a graduate certificate or an equivalent qualification or
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (eg. medicine and health fields such as dentistry, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy or science, mathematics, veterinary science, or humanities and social sciences fields such as international relations, international development, economics, political science, communication and journalism, or education, or civil engineering, or law) or equivalent qualification or
  • A bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and two years professional work experience in health or international development.

Course structure

The Master of Global Health requires the successful completion of 72 credit points of units of study including:

  • 24 credit points of core units of study,
  • A minimum 12 credit points of core elective units of study
  • Up to 30 credit points elective units of study, of which a minimum 12 credit points must be from MGH.A minimum of 6 credit points from capstone unit(s) of study (6 credit points capstone, 12 credit points research dissertation, or 12 credit points international field placement)

Sample pattern of enrolment

Students commencing enrolment in Semester 2 of a given year will need to do elective units before core units.

Core units of study

Students complete 24 credit points of core units of study. Core units of study are only offered in Semester 1.

  • Full-time students take 24 credit points of core units in Semester 1.
  • Part-time students usually take 12 credit points of core units of study in Semester 1 in each of two consecutive years.

Core Elective units of study

Students must choose a minimum of 6 credit points Core Elective units from stream 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points from Core Elective units from stream 2.

  • Stream 1: Policy/System/Management
  • Stream 2: Advanced skills

Students who have not completed all core units should be aware of prerequisites before enrolling in electives.

Students commencing mid-year should discuss their elective choices with the course coordinator before enrolling.

Elective units of study

Students can select up to 30 credit points from the list of electives.

Capstone units of study

Students can select a 6 credit points or 12 credit points units of study from the list.
