Master of Global Health

Overview

The Master of Global Health at the Sydney School of Public Health focuses on preparing graduates to work to improve the health of populations in the global context. The course has a specific focus on achieving equity in health for people worldwide and on preparing you to apply public health principles in some of the most challenging and demanding settings in the world.

Course outcomes

The course focuses on themes such as: causes of ill-health and mortality, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, maternal and child health, health policy and health system strengthening, project management, and research methods.

The course comprises 24 credit points of core units of study, minimum 6 credit points of core elective (health policy/system/management) unit(s) of study, minimum 6 credit points of core elective (advanced skills) unit(s) of study, and minimum 6 credit points of capstone unit(s) of study. The core comprises two research methods units, two units covering the foundations of global health and skills for working in global health. Of the electives, at least 12 credit points of electives must be chosen from Global Health units (GLOHXXXX) and the remaining can be chosen from Global Health units or from a wide range of units offered by other programs in the School of Public Health. With special permission, students may also choose electives from outside the School.

All core units of study are available face-to-face and online. Some elective units are taught as intensive workshops. Note that all core units and many (but not all) electives are also taught online, which means that students who wish to do so can complete the MGH degree entirely online.
