(Clinical Dentistry) Oral Implants
Overview
This part time course aims to provide dental graduates with the skills and knowledge to manage treatment involving oral rehabilitation, including oral implant treatment, in general dental practice. The program focuses on the clinical practice of oral implant restoration. The program is aimed at dental graduates wishing to develop skills in oral rehabilitation including implant treatment for general dental practice. Admission to the course is biennial.

Graduates of the program have the skills and knowledge to provide oral rehabilitation, including implant treatment, in general dental practice.

Year 1
DENT5020 Implant Patient Selection

Mode of delivery: Clinical experience
This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of clinical decision-making and evidence-based information on patient selection for oral implant care. This includes selection of patients for less complex oral implant treatment and recognising very complex cases and the need for multi-disciplinary treatment. The concept of work-up for these cases will be emphasised as well as various treatment modalities in oral implantology. Students will learn to collect the necessary history and records in preparation for treatment.

This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of clinical decision-making and evidence-based information on implant treatment planning. This includes the selection of implant designs and the appropriate position of the implants to aid in the provision of the final restoration. Students will diagnostically plan the restoration and through the use of radiographic and surgical guides provide the ideal position of the implant, they will also make decisions in the various placement and loading protocols.

This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of evidence-based information on implant treatment planning and clinical decision-making. The student will learn to search and critically appraise the literature on a topic related to implant treatment planning.

This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of clinical decision-making and evidence-based information on implant clinical procedures. The student will be able to surgically place implants in various clinical presentations, perform the appropriate impression procedures and select the appropriate abutments. Minor bone augmentation procedures will be integrated into the surgical skill training to enhance implant outcome.

This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of evidence-based information on implant surgery - prosthodontics and clinical decision-making. This unit aims to provide students at the postgraduate level details of clinical decision-making and evidence-based information on implant advanced procedures. Students will be able to analyse more complex cases including full arch implant supported fixed restorations. There should be an understanding that osseointegration and its stability is multi-factorial and dependent on various biological and microbiological processes.
