Coursework
Deepen your understanding of American politics, culture and society. Gain high-level analytical research and writing skills as well as a specialist understanding of U.S. military, political and cultural power. This degree will ask you to think critically about the underlying theories and concepts of American studies, and test your assumptions about the United States and its influence in the world. Our courses provide you with an international perspective on American history, politics and foreign policy, ranging from policy analysis through to an appreciation of cultural power and historical change. Awards and Requirements
Graduate Certificate in US Studies
Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in US Studies are required to complete 24 credit points, including:
- 6 credit points from compulsory unit of study, Fundamentals of US Studies
- 12 credit points from core units of study
- 6 credit points from either core or elective units of study
Graduate Diploma in US Studies
Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in US Studies are required to complete 48 credit points, including:
- 6 credit points from compulsory unit of study, Fundamentals of US Studies
- 18 credit points from core units of study
- 24 credit points from either core or elective units of study
Master of US Studies
Candidates for the Master of US Studies are required to complete 96 credit points, including:
- 6 credit points from compulsory unit of study, Fundamentals of US Studies
- 18 credit points from core units of study
- 48 credit points from either core or elective units of study
- 24 credit points from capstone units of study
Candidates who have completed previous study in a relevant discipline may be eligible for a reduction in the requirements in accordance with the table below.
