2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to candidate choice.

3 Cross-faculty management

(1)
Candidates in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) will be under the supervision of the Faculty of Science.
(2)
The Dean of the Faculty of Science shall exercise authority in any matter concerned with the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) not otherwise dealt with in these resolutions.

4 Embedded courses

(1)
The embedded courses in this sequence are:
(a)
Diploma of Foundation Studies;
(b)
Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies; and
(c)
Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended).
(2)
All candidates will be admitted to and enrolled in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended).
(3)
A candidate for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) may, with the permission of the Associate Dean (Education), elect to discontinue study and graduate with a lower award from the embedded sequence, provided that:
(a)
for the Diploma of Foundation Studies, the candidate has successfully completed 36 credit points as specified in the course resolutions for the Diploma of Foundation Studies;
(b)
for the Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies, the candidate has successfully completed 72 credit points as specified in the course resolutions for the Advanced Diploma of Foundation Studies.
(4)
Only the longest degree for which the student is eligible in the embedded sequence will be awarded.

5 Admission to candidature

(1)
Admission to this course is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, who meet the process outlined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
(2)
Admission to this course will be on demonstrated potential for tertiary study to a standard sufficient to undertake the course as demonstrated in:
(a)
a numeracy and literacy diagnostic test;
(b)
a structured interview;
(c)
evidence of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), tertiary study or an approved preparation program.
(d)
a portfolio of written work or support material including a personal statement of intent for studying the course.
(3)
English language requirements must be met where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English
(4)
Applicants are ranked on merit and offers for available places are issued according to the ranking. Details of admission policies are found in the Coursework Rule 2014 and the Coursework Policy.

6 Requirements for award

(1)
Units of study that may be taken for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) are set out in:
(a)
Table E for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended);
(b)
Table A for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (BLAS Table A);
(c)
Table A for the Bachelor of Science (Bachelor of Science Table A);
(d)
Table A for the Bachelor of Arts (Bachelor of Arts Table A);
(e)
Table S of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees;
(f)
Table O of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees;
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended), a student must successfully complete 168 credit points, comprising:
(a)
30 credit points from Table E consisting:
(i)
24 credit points of Foundation units of study;
(ii)
A 6 credit point Cultural Capstone Project unit; and
(b)
12 credit points of Open Learning Environment units from Table O; and
(c)
36 credit points of liberal studies units from the BLAS Table A consisting:
(i)
12 credit points of core units of study, ATHK1001 and WRIT1001
(ii)
a minimum of 6 credit points of units from Part C Ethics;
(iii)
18 credit points from any of the six areas from the BLAS Table A, Parts A-F
(iv)
units of study chosen to satisfy these requirements cannot count towards the Science or Arts requirements outlined in (d) below;
(d)
all students must complete either a major (48 credit points) from either the Bachelor of Science Table A (Science major) or Bachelor of Arts Table A (Arts major) and:
(i)
For a Science Major: a minimum of 36 credit points of units of study from the Bachelor of Arts Table A, which must include at least 12 credit points of Arts 2000 or 3000-level units of study; or
(ii)
For an Arts Major: a minimum of 36 credit points of units of study from the Bachelor of Science Table A, which must include at least 12 credit points of 2000 or 3000-level units of study;
(e)
a maximum of 12 credit points from outside of the Bachelor of Arts Table A and the Bachelor of Science Table A may be taken from the Table S elective list; and
(f)
no more than 108 credit points of 1000-level units of study.

7 Majors and minors

(1)
Completion of a major is a requirement of the course. Units of study counted towards one major may not count toward any other major.
(2)
The list of Bachelor of Science Table A majors available is specified in the course resolutions for the Bachelor of Science.
(a)
Candidates choosing a Science major have the option of completing the Psychology program (which contains the Psychological Sciences major).
(3)
The list of Bachelor of Arts Table A majors available is specified in the resolutions for the Bachelor of Arts.
(4)
Units of study counted towards a major may not count toward the liberal studies requirements described in Section 5 (2) (c).

8 Cross-institutional study

(1)
Cross-institutional study is available in this course under conditions specified in the Resolutions of the Faculty of Science.

9 International exchange

(1)
The Faculty of Science encourages candidates in this course to participate in international exchange programs as set out in the Resolutions of the Faculty of Science.

10 Course transfer

(1)
A student may transfer from this course to the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science. Transferring students may only receive credit for any units taken from Table A of the Bachelor of Liberal Arts Science, Table O (Open Learning Environment), and for relevant units of study in accordance with the course resolutions for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science.

11 Credit for previous study

(1)
Credit transfer is subject to the provisions of the Coursework Policy 2014 and the Resolutions of the Faculty of Science.

12 Transitional provisions

(1)
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2022.
