Mechatronic Engineering

Stream Overview

Mechatronic engineering draws on elements of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, systems engineering and computer science. It is a distinct, multidisciplinary engineering field that provides the foundation for robotics, automation, and the ‘intelligent’ products and devices that are ubiquitous in society today.

Mechatronic engineers use their skills in a diverse range of industries including design and manufacture of vehicles and subsystems in the automotive and other transport sectors, ‘intelligent’ product and appliance design, manufacturing and non-traditional robotics and automation, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and automation in diverse areas such as mining, agriculture, construction, defence, computer systems, software design, estimation and merchant banking.

The Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Mechatronic) places strong emphasis on the development of skills in systems and design engineering, digital electronics, microprocessors, computer control, and software design. Management and communications are an integral part of this course.
