Graduate Diploma in Music (Performance)
The Graduate Diploma in Music (Performance) is designed to extend candidates' technical mastery of their instrument or voice while deepening their knowledge of repertoire and performance practice. This program may be taken in any of the Conservatorium's instrumental areas, including orchestral and solo instruments, voice, early music, jazz and contemporary music practice.
Language requirements for International candidates
An IELTS level of 6.0 with no component below 6.0 is required for entry to this degree.
Course structures
The required units of study for this award indicate the practical focus placed on performance as both a soloist and member of a musical ensemble.
Candidature for the Graduate Diploma of Music Studies (Performance) includes one recital, participation in conducted ensembles and chamber groups, and attendance at required seminars.
Collaborative Piano and Repetiteur principal study areas
Collaborative Piano principal study is designed to provide high-quality experience in accompaniment for those students who have begun to work towards a career as a collaborative pianist. Students gain experience in chamber music, instrumental duo, vocal accompaniment, choral accompaniment and orchestral keyboard, with a wide range of repertoire studied.
Students auditioning for Collaborative Piano are expected to demonstrate ability and experience in accompanying and ensemble playing, some familiarity with standard keyboard and instrumental literature, as well as proficiency in sight reading.
The Repetiteur principal study area allows accomplished pianists to develop the knowledge skills which professional opera companies require of repetiteurs: repertoire, score reading, languages, vocal coaching, and where appropriate work with singers and producers in opera encounters and production as part of the ensemble program.
Students auditioning for Repetiteur principal study are expected to demonstrate solo performance and accompaniment skills, vocal coaching ability, and show an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a repetiteur.
Jazz, Non-Western Performance and Contemporary Music principal study areas
Students studying in the areas will work with Conservatoirum staff to develop a curriculum relevant to their discipline ares within the degree requirements.
