The Master of Education (Digital Technologies) is a higher degree for professional educators who are seeking to build their capacity to lead learning and teacher improvement in primary and secondary schools. It is designed for those with teacher qualifications and/or experience who are seeking to gain or update theor expertise in Digital Technologies education. Teh program is unique in providing a pathway for participants to develop both their Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowldge (TPACK) as well as strategies to lead teacher adoption and implementation of the new Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies.
The course introduces participants to fundamental computer science concepts that form the basis of the new Digital Technologies learning area, and combines this with an in-depth understanding of effective professional development practices. It provides an in-depth understanding of topics including digital systems and data representation, algorithm design and implementation, teacher training and professional development, and strategic planning and school leadership. The program is suitable for aspiring school leaders, and for teachers seeking further accreditation against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Awards and requirements
Master of Education (Digital Technologies)
To qualify for the award of Master of Education (Digital Technologies) candidates must complete 48 credit points, including
- 24 credit points of Digital Technologies stream core units of study;
- 12 to 18 credit points of selective units of study;
- 6 to 12 credit points of capstone units of study; and
- where required, additional elective units of study.
Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Digital Technologies
To qualify for the award Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Educational Psychology) candidates must complete 36 credit points, including
- 24 credit points of Digital Technologies stream core units of study;
- up to 12 credit points of selective units of study;
- 6 to 12 credit points of capstone units of study; and
- where required, additional elective units of study.
Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Digital Technologies)
To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Digital Technologies) candidates must complete 24 credit points, including
- 24 credit points of Digital Technologies stream core units of study.
Outcomes
At the conclusion of this designated degree students should be able to:
- demonstrate a deep understanding of the content of digital technologies as taught in Primary and Secondary schools in Australia based on current research trends
- design differentiated learning pathways for a range of learners that incorporate data, information and digital literacy through designing teaching programs and assessment tasks
- evaluate key issues in policy and practice in the field of digital technologies
- apply a deep understanding of the content relating to data representation and data analysis in the design of learning activities and assessment as, of and for learning of Digital Technologies in Primary and Secondary schools
- explore recent international and national research into teaching data representation and introducing students to authentic data analysis
- demonstrate the ability to develop intercultural awareness and understanding in teaching programs and assessment tasks
