Master of Project and Program Management


These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2014, the Resolutions of the Faculty, the University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006 (as amended), the Academic Honesty in Coursework Policy 2015 and the Academic Honesty Procedures 2016. 2 Attendance pattern

The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to candidate choice.

3 Master's type

The master's degree in these resolutions is a professional master's course, as defined by the Coursework Rule.

4 Embedded courses in this sequence

(1)
The embedded courses in this sequence are:
(a)
the Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management
(c)
the Master of Project and Program Management
(2)
Providing candidates satisfy the admission requirements for each stage, a candidate may progress to the award of any of the courses in this sequence. Only the longest award completed will be conferred.

5 Admission to candidature

(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit according to the following admissions criteria.
(2)
Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management requires:
(a)
A minimum of an AQF level 7 degree and 2 years relevant industry experience
(4)
Admission to the Master of Project and Program Management requires:
(a)
A minimum of an AQF level 7 qualification and at least 2 years relevant industry experience;
(b)
Other students with a high level of relevant achievement may be admitted provided the Dean is satisfied they have achieved learning outcomes equivalent to an AQF level 7 award and at least 2 years relevant work experience; or
(c)
completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management with a minimum credit average; or
(d)
completion of a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from the University of Sydney with a minimum credit average.
(3)
In exceptional circumstances the Dean or nominee may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the faculty, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

6 Requirements for award

(1)
The units of study that are required for the courses are set out in the table of units of study: Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management / Master of Project and Program Management.
(2)
To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management a candidate must complete 24 credit points from the:
(a)
Core units of study
(4)
To qualify for the award of the Master of Project and Program Management, a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:
(a)
Core units of study - 30 credit points
(b)
A capstone experience - 6 credit points
(c)
Plus either:
(i)
12 credit points of work based research; or
(ii)
12 credit points of electives

7 Progression Rules

A candidate for the Master of Project and Program Management must complete 24 credit points from Core units of study before taking Project and Program Management Capstone Project Units.

8 International Exchange

The Faculty encourages candidates in this course to participate in international exchange programs. For more information on international exchanges refer to the International Office.

9 Cross-institutional Study

Cross-institutional study is not available in these courses except where the University of Sydney has a formal cooperation agreement with another university.

10 Course Transfer

A candidate for the Master of Project and Program Management degree may elect to discontinue study and graduate with the Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management, with the approval of the Dean, and provided the requirements of the Graduate Certificate have been met.

11 Credit for Previous Study

Credit for previous study may be granted for the Master of Project and Program Management and the Graduate Certificate in Project and Program Management in accordance with the Faculty Coursework Rules for “Credit for previous study” within the “Resolutions of the Faculty (of Engineering and Information Technologies)”, subject to approval by the Academic Director.
