About the unit of study levels

What are 1000-level, 2000-level, 3000-level or 4000-level and 5000-level or higher units?

• 1000-level units of study have foundational or introductory learning outcomes. They are designed for students in the first year of a Bachelor degree or who are attempting a discipline area for the first time.
• 2000-level units of study have learning outcomes which assume prior foundational or introductory study. They are designed for students who are in the second year of a Bachelor degree or have completed 1000-level units in a discipline area.
• 3000-level units of study have learning outcomes designed for students in the third year of a Bachelor degree. In 144 credit point Bachelor degrees, these units should enable students to demonstrate learning outcomes expected for a degree at the AQF Qualifications - Level 7.
• 4000-level units of study have learning outcomes at the advanced coursework or honours level. These units are designed for students who have already achieved learning outcomes for a 144 credit point Bachelor degree, or who are completing the final year of a 192 credit point Bachelor degree. They should enable students to demonstrate learning outcomes expected for a degree at AQF Qualifications - Level 8.
• 5000-level or Higher units of study have learning outcomes designed for postgraduate-level students. That is, students who have already achieved the learning outcomes for a Bachelor degree and are undertaking a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters by coursework, Masters by Research or a PhD.

Unit of study outlines

Unit outlines will be available though Find a unit outline two weeks before the first day of teaching for 1000-level and 5000-level units, or one week before the first day of teaching for all other units.
