Molecular Biology and Genetics

Molecular Biology and Genetics is a multi-disciplinary major in the School of Molecular Bioscience and the School of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science. Units of study in this major are available at standard and advanced level.

Program structure and content

Molecular Biology and Genetics units of study at the Junior and Intermediate level will be taught by staff from the School of Molecular Bioscience and the School of Biological Sciences. The Junior unit MBLG1001/1901 and the Intermediate unit MBLG2071/2971 are coordinated by the School of Molecular Bioscience while MBLG2072/2972 is coordinated by the School of Biological Sciences.

First year planning for a Molecular Biology and Genetics major

Essential: MBLG1001/1901, 6 credit points of Junior BIOL and 12 credit points of Junior CHEM.

Requirements for a major

For a major in Molecular Biology and Genetics, the minimum requirement is 24 credit points from the senior units of study listed in this subject area in Table 1 - Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Honours

In order to study Molecular Biology and Genetics in an Honours year, eligible students can enrol in either the Biochemistry Honours Program at the School of Molecular Bioscience or the Biology Honours Program at the School of Biological Sciences.
