Cadigal Alternative Entry Program

The Cadigal Alternative Entry Program is an access and support program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who want to study at the University of Sydney. Any course offered by the University (excluding block-mode and away-from-base courses) can be studied through the Cadigal Program.

Indigenous Australian Studies

The major units of study are coordinated and taught by the Koori Centre through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

If you wish to take these units of study you need to enrol through the faculty, not the Koori Centre.

Indigenous Australian Studies is an interdisciplinary program of study. It gives students an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and knowledge systems. It also draws upon the ideas and methods of disciplines including history, literature, sociology, health, linguistics, film and archaeology to examine the scholarly and everyday construction of knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their experiences and histories.

Taught by Koori Centre academic staff, Indigenous Australian Studies units are offered through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and are available to all students as a Table A major.

Undergraduate courses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

Block-mode programs (away from base)

Please be aware that block mode programs are for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students only. Students will attend classes at the Camperdown/Darlington campus for six one-week blocks each year with the remaining study taken at home.

Diploma in Education (Aboriginal)

The Diploma in Education (Aboriginal) is a two-year course which offers students intensive education skills training.

The Diploma in Education articulates directly into the Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Aboriginal Studies),which means that successful completion of the the diploma counts as the first two years of the bachelor's degree.

Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Aboriginal Studies)

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Aboriginal Studies) is a four-year degree that gives students a secondary teaching qualification with a major in Aboriginal Studies and History.

Entry into the Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Aboriginal Studies) is by completion of the Diploma in Education (Aboriginal) or equivalent qualifications.
