Master of Urbanism

This course provides students with:

• basic urban design and drawing skills
• a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between:
  history
  theory
  concepts in urban design, planning and heritage conservation
• training to work in a range of built environment professions.

Students may gain additional expertise in either heritage conservation, planning or urban design.

The Urban and Regional Planning specialisation is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA). Master's graduates are eligible, subject to professional experience requirements, for corporate membership of the PIA.

In the capstone integrated urban studio students will undertake a complex real world project. The capstone will utilise the skills developed throughout the course and give students the opportunity to demonstrate their competencies and theoretical understanding as part of a team.

All students select electives to deepen or broaden their studies in an area of interest. There is the opportunity to take an international field studio.

The course will make use of industry experts to provide direct professional input and contact for the best learning opportunities.

Admission requirements

To apply, you should hold a bachelor's degree in design, human geography or a related field from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification.
