Course structure and requirements
The honours year allows you to extend your potential in studio-based and written research. You may continue to work in the area of your undergraduate study or undertake research in a different area.
You nominate study in one of the following options:
- studio practice and research paper (5000-7000 word research paper and a substantial exhibition, performance or installation of artwork) or
- dissertation (15,000-word dissertation that demonstrates a commitment to serious scholarship, a focused investigation, disciplined editing and rigorous analysis).

Honours supervisors
An academic staff member will supervise your studio and written work, seminar preparation and other requirements of the course studies. You are responsible for keeping in regular contact with the appointed course supervisor (an average of an hour per fortnight), maintaining ongoing studies consultation, and observing a schedule of dates for the presentation of research paper or dissertation drafts.
Your supervisor will maintain a record of your progress, and provide you with a summary of your progress at the end of the semester.
Honours examination
Your final examination will take place at the graduate exhibition at the end of the course. You are required to present your research paper and substantial exhibition, performance or installation of artwork; or dissertation at an oral examination, to a panel of two examiners.
At your examination, the examiners will engage in discussion of your studio work and research paper or dissertation, which they will have received and read in advance. They may ask you questions and offer comments.
