HIV, STIs and Sexual Health

Admission requirements

In general, admission to the Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health requires a medical degree, or an undergraduate degree plus a minimum of 12 months research or work experience in the field.

Admission to the Master of HIV, STIs and Sexual Health requires a medical degree, an undergraduate honours degree, an undergraduate degree plus a minimum of 12 months research or work experience in the field, or completion of the graduate diploma in this field.

The double degree is only available to international students and is conditional upon the appointment of an appropriate supervisor.

Domestic students can enrol in the separate degrees.

Course structure

The Graduate Diploma and Master of HIV, STIs and Sexual Health are available in the following streams:

  • Clinical Medicine
  • Counselling
  • Laboratory
  • Nursing
  • Public Health

The Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health requires the
successful completion of 36 credit points of units of study including:

  • 6 credit points of core units of study;
  • 24 credit points of stream specific core units of study; and
  • 6 credit points of stream specific elective units of study.

The Master of HIV, STIs and Sexual Health requires the
successful completion of 48 credit points of units of study including:

  • 12 credit points of core units of study;
  • 24 credit points of stream-specific core units of study; and
  • 12 credit points of stream specific elective units of study.

Pattern of enrolment and pathways

The table in this and the specific pathway sections provide examples for structuring programs of study directed towards specific interests or future employment.

Students must complete the required credit point value of core units of study, stream specific core units of study and stream specific elective units of study within their selected pathway.
