Master of Peace and Conflict Studies
These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2000 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Resolutions of the Faculty, the University of Sydney (Student Appeals against Academic Decisions) Rule 2006 (as amended) and the Academic Board policies on Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism.

The master's degree in these resolutions is an advanced learning master's course, as defined by the Coursework Rule.
4 Embedded courses in this sequence

A candidate for the graduate certificate or graduate diploma may apply to progress to a longer course in this sequence, providing the candidate meets the admission requirements for that course. Only the longest award completed will be conferred.
5 Admission to candidature
(1)
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria. In exceptional circumstances the Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications but whose evidence of experience and achievement is deemed by the Dean to be equivalent.
(2)
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies requires a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification. Relevant, recent professional qualifications and experience may be assessed as suitable for admission by the Dean under the provision for exceptional circumstances outlined in the Coursework Rule.
(a)
a bachelor's degree with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, with a major in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
(b)
completion of the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
(a)
a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, with a major in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
(b)
completion of the requirements for the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
6 Requirements for award
(1)
The units of study that may be taken for these courses are set out in the Postgraduate Table of Units of Study for the Peace and Conflict Studies subject area.

Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies are required to complete 24 credit points, including:

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies are required to complete 36 credit points, including:

Candidates for the Master of Peace and Conflict Studies are required to complete 48 credit points including:

42 credit points from elective units of study. With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 12 credit points of elective units can be taken from units of study outside those listed in the Peace and Conflict Studies subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table, including a maximum of 6 credit points from units of study offered by other faculties.
7 Credit transfer policy

A maximum of one unit of study may be credited towards the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies and only if:
(b)
the study was through the University's Summer or Winter Schools or Centre for Continuing Education; and
(c)
it is for a unit of study being offered to candidates for the Graduate Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies.
8 Course transfer

A candidate for the master's degree or graduate diploma may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a shorter award from this sequence, with the approval of the Dean, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.
9 Transitional provisions

Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January 2014 will complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January 2019. The Faculty may specify a later date for completion or specify alternative requirements for completion of candidatures that extend beyond this time.
