Bachelor of Nursing (Post-registration) Offshore (Singapore)
This offshore course is conducted in Singapore by the University of Sydney in conjunction with the Singapore Institute of Management Pty Ltd. Graduates of this course receive their award from the University of Sydney. The course is offered over one year part time or two years part time and is taught in the block mode with online support.
The face-to-face component each semester is delivered in a two-week teaching block at the beginning of the semester and some units have additional face-to-face hours mid-semester. There are two intakes per year commencing in January/February and June/July. Teaching is conducted by academic staff from Sydney Nursing School.
Course structure
The course structure for international offshore students studying in Singapore is predetermined and is described in detail in the unit of study table, as per the Singapore Nursing Board Requirements.
Unit of study overview
Units of study available in Semester One of the course focus on: (i) the discipline of nursing, nursing knowledge and professional practice in both the historical and current health policy contexts; (ii) consolidating and extending students' knowledge and skills in relation to the therapeutic applications of drugs based on their underlying pharmacology (a Singapore Nursing Board requirement); (iii) the advanced clinical abilities required for nursing assessment of patients, families and communities in the 21st century, and, (iv) clinical and patient education practices in the context of the health care environment with emphasis on continuing changes in technologies, information and evidence bases for practice.
Units of study available in Semester Two focus on: (i) law and ethics in nursing practice (a Singapore Nursing Board requirement); (ii) the management of nursing services and clinical governance; and, (iii) inquiry and research in nursing. In Semester Two, students also complete a unit of study allowing them to undertake a clinical project of their choice.
All units are worth six credit points and students are required to submit assignments and sit examinations where applicable. There are no clinical requirements for this degree.
