Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts

The digital is now part of our everyday environment. Digital processes, materials and tools demand a new approach to the design of products, systems and devices in today’s rapidly changing culture. Discover innovative design strategies for exploring how to interact with our computationally enhanced world. The IDEA program provides you with the skills and knowledge to create interactive experiences, blending the digital with the physical.

The studio model is core to the program, placing students in a highly collaborative, peer-learning environment. You will participate in a research-led studio-driven project that engages with contemporary issues in society. Hone your conceptual design abilities and technical skills, within the framework of a highly creative, research-based and human-centred design process.

The design focus in the studio varies every semester, ranging from small-scale wearable devices to large-scale environments. Content will keep pace with the cutting-edge of technology, ensuring that your skills are professionally relevant. You will have access to a broad array of modern technologies and will draw on the expertise of your studio instructors, world-leading researchers in this emergent field. Opportunities to take your designs to exhibition will enhance your portfolio and engage the public in the potential of innovative applications of interactive digital technologies.

Electives can be taken across faculties for specialization in a range of disciplines. The course culminates in a capstone experience of an industry internship or an individual research project. The Faculty draws on extensive industry and alumni contacts to offer you the opportunity of an industry internship and to build your professional network. These factors combine to position you as a creative industry specialist with the ability to work across strategic, creative and technical domains.
